  1. Ever since the BJP has taken control of the country, the rate of mob killings has been on the rise
  2. Shashi Tharoor, Congress MP, slams the BJP government’s ideology of Hindutwa calling it an insult to the Hindu religion
  3. He claims that it is all a political strategy devised by the Modi government and has nothing to do with the religion or its ideologies

Senior Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor gave a speech at the All India Professionals Congress (AIPC) on Sunday 22nd September 2019, at Pune. He slammed the BJP government’s Hindutwa policy and said a lot of statements against how the party is running the country based on religion.

He states that the killing by mobs and in the name of religion has been on the rise since the BJP government came into power. He was quoted as saying,

” this is an insult of the hindu dharma and of lord ram that someone uses his name to kill another person”

He states that many attackers ask the poor victims to chant “Jai Sri Ram” against their will, and hurt them if they deny doing so. He expresses his disdain for the lack of action taken against such individuals and states that no one has been given the right to kill another, no matter what situation.

He further mentions the name of Mohsin Shaikh who was a Muslim residing in Pune. He had been killed when he was returning from his job, 5 years ago, solely for being a Muslim, and for no fault of his, by a mob.

Tharoor also mentioned similar such cases like Mohd Akhlaq who was killed for apparently carrying beef. He was quoted as saying,

“But it was reported later that it was not beef. Even if it was beef who gave anyone the right to kill a person”

He also mentioned the name of a Haryana resident, who was lynched for transporting cattle legally.

The MP claimed that the rise in such mishaps was because of the great power handed over to the BJP party after their election two terms ago.
