In a fresh salvo at Narendra Modi government, a veteran politician and head of the ally of Congress in Maharashtra-NCP has asked why BJP government had conferred him with Padma Vibhushan if they thought that he was Pro-Pakistan.
Recently in an interview, Modi had targeted Pawar, asking him why he liked the hospitality of Pakistan so much.
In his rebuttal, Pawar said that Prime Minister has failed in maintaining the dignity of the prestigious post. “I don’t understand one thing. Prime Minister is an institution. He should have researched before passing any such statements. The Prime Minister makes statements without ensuring the statements passed by him hold true or not. If according to him my interests lie so much in Pakistan that I am against the interest of my own country, then why was I conferred with Padma Vibhushan?,” he said.
He further stated that Padma Vibhushan is second only to Bharat Ratna. If the government conferred it on me, it means it thought that I had done some national service which was worthy of the award. He said on one said, he has been conferred with such a prestigious award and on the other side, such statements are being passed which are in contradiction to the award being conferred upon him. He said such a contradiction by a person who is occupying the highest position in the country doesn’t look good.”
When asked about the statement, NCP chief said he was talking at any internal party event behind closed doors and didn’t say anything in the favour of Pakistan. I had said, “the Pakistan government and Army take an anti-India stand for their benefit. Because it is in their interest to say such things. He said when met people over there, they had many of their relatives in Lucknow and Hyderabad, and wondered how they how could meet them or invite them. He said Peoples’ issues are different from leaders’ issue and said that leaders create Anti-India environment was his statement and asked whether passing such a statement would make him Pro-Pakistani or not.
