  • He stated that since both the sides are China’s neighbours, the Chinese hope that these two countries can settle their differences
  • On hearing both the sides, the President has urged both sides to settle the matter through dialogue
  • It was further mentioned that China hopes to develop deeper, mutually beneficial relationships with all South Asian countries, without influence from a third party.

Th Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi, released a statement on Tuesday, 15th October 2019, regarding President Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Chennai, India, to meet PM Narendra Modi. He has stated that the President wishes that India and Pakistan resolve their issues via Dialogue.

In the statement, Wang was quoted as saying,

“both india and pakistan are friendly neighbours of china, and the chinese side hopes that the two countries can properly manage and control differences and improve their relationships.”

Before Xi Jinping made a trip to India, he had a conversation with the Pakistan PM, Imran Khan and listened to his side of the story in regards to the conflict in Kashmir. Thereafter, in Chennai, he met PM Modi, and heard the Indian view as well. Xang further quoted,

“Chinese side sincerely expects sound china-india relations, china pakistan relations and india-pakistan realtions and expects to see all sides work together to promote regional peace and stability.”

Wang also expressed China’s desire to form mutually beneficial relationships with other South Asian countries as well. He hopes that they can merge their unique histories and characteristics and work together, without any third party interference.

Wang also made a mention of the joining of the emblems of the Chinese “dragon” and Indian “elephant” will serve best the “fundamental Interests of the two countries”. The foreign minister also said i reference to the trip that XI made to Nepal, That Nepal was an important partner of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and the visit helped strengthen their relationship.
