 Morbi Bridge Collapse Latest Update Death Count Rises To 141, PM Expresses Grief

A piece of very heart-wrenching news has come up from Gujrat’s Morbi where around 132 people died after the cable bridge collapsed. According to the sources, around 150 people were standing at the time of the shocking incident. Media reports have stated that around 177 people have been rescued so far. However, the latest reports may change the figure of deaths and rescued people. Other reports have stated that around 20 people are going under treatment, including those who are critical. The noted news agency has brought the reports, claiming that search and rescue operations are being carried out by the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Fire Brigade, and Gujarat Information Department has said.

According to the sources, the bridge was going under renovation for the past 7 months and it was recently reopened to the public on the 26th of October, as it was the sacred moment for Gujarat because of the day they celebrate Gujrati New year.  Brijesh Merja one of the Gujarat ministers took his Twitter where he wrote “Due to the bridge collapse, several people fell into the river. A rescue operation is underway. There are reports that several people have suffered injuries. They are being rushed to hospitals”.

As soon as the news started surfacing on social media all the big politicians came forward and expressed their grief. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took his Twitter and wrote in Gujrati which translates into English means “I am deeply saddened by the tragedy at Morbi. Talked to Gujarat Chief Minister Shri @Bhupendrapbjp and other officials about this. Relief and rescue operations are going on in full swing and all essential assistance is being provided to the affected”. PM Modi expressed his pain and shared his condolences to the families that lost their loved ones in the accident. After the dreadful incident, PM Modi declared an ex-gratia fund of Rs 2 lakh for the families of all deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals.

According to the latest reports, around 500 people were present at the time of this horrific mishap. Officials have stated that the bridge could only bear the weight of 125, but at that time the limit of people there lead to the incident. So far, it has been reported that around 141 people have been found dead while around 177 people have been rescued. A massive number of people were there at the bridge and half of the number were present at the bridge. The crowd including women, children, and men was there to celebrate Chat Puja. According to the reports, the bridge was one of the oldest cable bridges that were made back in the British era. The bridge was undergoing renovation for 7 months and reopened for people recently.

After the news brought the hype, Gujrat’s Chief Minister also took his Twitter where he expressed his pain and condoled families. In the tweet, Mr. Patel wrote “I express my condolences to the families of the citizens who lost their lives in the tragedy of Morbi. The state government will provide Rs 4 lakh to the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured”. Well, as the rescue teams are searching for people and doing their jobs, so as per this saying this won’t be bad that much information on the case is yet to announce.
