A top maoist leader hailing from Tamil Nadu was assassinated by the police in an encounter. He was killed on the second day of the encounter between the group and police.
On Monday, three maoists were killed when patrolling commandos of the state police, Thunderbolt, exchanged fire with Maoists that were camping in deep forests.
The officers that were patrolling in the deep forests were attacked by seven members of maoists’ community.
Police sources stated that Manivasakam, who was member of CPI belonging to Tamil Nadu state committee , was killed in the encounter. Manivasakam was the leader of the Kabani Dalam the Western Ghats zonal community of CPI.
“Our teams were in the forest engaged in the inquest of the three bodies..a gang fired at us. We retaliated, killing senior Maoist leader Manivaskam,” a police officer said. He said that all the bodies of the maoists were taken for post-mortem to Thrissur. Two out of three bodies have been identified by the police one was Karthick from Karnataka and another was a woman named Jyothi from Tamil Nadu.
Sources revealed that Manivasakam was at the top of the Maoists’ activity in the region after the death of Kuppu Devaraj in 2016 in an encounter with the state police in Malapurram.
State Secretary of CPI, Kanam Rajendran took exception to the police action. Human rights activists have also started protesting against the assassination of the maoists.
