- A 2-year-old girl was thrown out of the window of a six-story building on Saturday 28th September 2019
- Her grandmother threw her out of the flat’s window when everyone else was sleeping, due to dislike towards her
- She was found by neighbours lying on the ground at the bottom of the building and was taken to the nearby hospital where she was declared dead
On Saturday, 28th September 2019, Jiya Ansari, 2 years old, was thrown out of a window from the sixth floor, for which her grandmother was held responsible. The incident took place at an apartment at East Malad in Mumbai, between 5:30 am and 5:45 am, when everyone else was sleeping.
Who was present in the house at the time?
Other than Jiya and her grandmother, the two-year old’s mother, father, aunt and cousin were living at the same house and were sleeping. She was sick and couldn’t sleep properly the same night when she was murdered.
Why did the grandmother take such a step?
According to police reports, the grandmother was not fond of her granddaughter and was constantly irritated with her presence. It became such a big problem that there were daily fights in the house and the old lady left the place at one point to live with her other son. A few weeks later, when she came back, on Friday, one day before the incident, her feelings of anger were still present.
The grandmother woke up in the morning, took Jiya out of her bed, threw her out and shut the kitchen window. She then proceeded to go back to sleep. Later, the neighbours woke the whole family up when they noticed the 2-year old’s body lying on the ground at the bottom floor. She was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The grandmother was arrested on Monday, 30th September 2019, by the Mumbai police and further investigations are going on.
