At least 17 people were killed in incidents of flooding and collapsing of the wall after heavy rain pounded Pune and other various parts of the district on Wednesday night.

Many low-lying area in Sahakarnagar, Parvati, Singhad road and Padmavati were flooded. At least twelve people have died in the city. Outside the city five were killed as a wall had collapsed in Tangewala colony area on Wednesday. Waterlogging on the roads had been witnessed across the city.

Police and rescue agencies fear more casualties due to rain so three teams of National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in the city for rescue purposes.

The army has rescued 300 people, including some stranded on rooftops of their houses and on trees, from Solapur road area, a defence spokesperson was quoted saying.

Disaster management cell in deep slumber: NCP over Pune rain

NCP chief spokesperson Nawab Malik accused CM Devendra Fadnavis of being imbued in elections and nothing else as he observed that the latter was in Delhi to attend poll-related meetings of BJP leaders.

“The chief minister is so engrossed in poll-related work that he sees nothing else. These people are not concerned about the crisis people are going through. They are worried about retaining power”, Malik was quoted saying to the news agency.

Madhya Pradesh and Konkan might get rain too: Indian Meteorological department

IMD officials said along with Pune a cloud cover has been witnessed in the Madhya Pradesh and Konkan regions. These areas a to are likely to record fairly widespread rainfall in upcoming days. Weather systems are at present prevailing over Maharashtra, besides a tough-running between the south-central Arabian Sea to Bihar, cutting across the state.

The department has warned of moderate to heavy-intensity rainfall in the upcoming hours as intense bearing clouds have been observed in the region.

The afternoon satellite imagery has suggested that nearly 88 per cent area over Pune is under severe cloud cover.
