The Northern Command of the Army has asked its troops that people who are returning from leave or outstation duties are to report directly to the screening centres. The screening centres have been established at various transit camps in Jammu and Kashmir. This is a step in the Army’s efforts to check the spread of the Coronavirus.

After the medical screening, the troops are being quarantined for 14 days. This is being done in isolation rooms established in the units.

PRO of Northern Command Lt Colonel Abhinav Navneet said that the Army’s efforts in the fight against the Coronavirus has gained momentum in the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.

The Army is taking a number of measures to prevent the epidemic amongst its personnel. He said that this is so that they are available to do their primary task. As well as, to support people in this fight against the Coronavirus.

The PRO also said,” Troops returning from leave or out station duties directly report to the screening centres established at various transit camps.”

The army is also maintaining social distancing by taking a series of steps. The distance between their beds in the barracks have been increased. Also, meals are being served at staggered timings in the dining halls to avoid crowding. Adequate hand washing places have also been placed.

The PRO also added that at the unit level, a dynamic and judicious approach has been adopted by all the ranks of the Indian Army. This is to contribute to the efforts being made against the Coronavirus under its new mission ‘Corona Mukt Awam’ which means Coronavirus free population.

The slogan,” I will neither get infected nor will I infect others”, is being aggressively followed by the Army personnel.

Lt. Col Navneet said,” Surveillance and control measures have been put in place and a number of innovative awareness programmes are being run by the field formations and units for the benefit of the populace, particularly in rural areas. Advisories by medical specialists on identification of and precautions against fomites has been issued to all in text and audio visual formats.”

He said that Army Personnel are also being motivated for sharing the information with their families, friends and civilians in their area of deployment. A total of 17 helplines have been established in the two UTs of Ladakh and J&K. These have been established for the public by the troops of the Northern Command.

The Mobile Check Posts usually deployed for Counter Terrorist Operations are educating the populace. This is innovatively happening by the way of audio broadcasts through loudspeakers and hailers.

Multiple advisories have been posted on Social Media. These also include Audio Video Content. These have been posted using the Twitter handle of the Northern Command which can also be accessed by the public.

The personnel said,” The Army as an organization is proactively taking all measures. Drills have been set in. Should there be a situation to extend facilities to the civil administration, medical personnel and units are building their capacities, non-medical personnel are being taught to actively contribute to the care of patients and effort is on to enhance equipment holdings.”
