L Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first Mann ki Baat address to the nation. Modi apologized to the citizens for the 21-day lockdown. The lockdown is a move to arrest the spread of Coronavirus.

He said that he was sure that the poor were angry with him. However, he said that he had no choice.

On Mann ki Baat, he said,” I had no choice but to make these decisions to fight the coronavirus. No one wants to take these decisions. But if you look at the world, you need to take these decisions.”

Modi said that there is a need to fight this before it takes on a deadly toll. He added,” Coronavirus has imprisoned the world. It has affected all. Old, young. Weak and strong. The whole of humanity needs to come together and fight this crisis.”

Jammu and Kashmir recorded its second death due to Coronavirus today. This is after a patient passed in Srinagar. The information was divulged by Principal Secretary (planning), Rohit Kansal. The death comes as the number of Coronavirus cases in India is on a rise. Most of the cases have turned up in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Due to this, India is nearing the 1000 mark. Nearly 25 deaths have been reported.

India is now on a 21-day lockdown which had been announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has been imposed to contain the spread of the Novel Coronavirus. The global figures indicate 6 lakh cases and more than 30000 deaths.

275 Indian citizens returned from Iran today. They are currently lodged at the Indian Army’s wellness centre in Jodhpur. The centre already has 277 Indians. They had been evacuated from Iran earlier this month. As Coronavirus is all over the world, India is evacuating its citizens from all over the world.

The death toll in Europe passed over 20000. Italy and Spain each report more than 800 dead in one day. The global fatalities rose over 30000.

Nearly one-third of the world’s population is under lockdown. The virus is leaving an imprint on nearly every aspect of society. It can wipe out millions of jobs, strain health care services and taking a heavy toll on national treasurers.

Late Saturday, Trump decided against a broad lockdown in New York and its neighbours. This is after strong pushback from local political leaders. Also, the warnings of the panic it could spark.

The United States now has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the world. With 122,666, according to a tally from Johns Hopkins University.

One of the deaths was announced on Saturday. It was that of an infant in Chicago who was younger than one year old. It marks an extremely rare case of juvenile death in the global pandemic.
