Waseem, a local wager, and Nazeem his wife drowned their 20-day old twin daughters, Afrin and Afiya in a pond near their house, on the pretext that they were facing financial burdens. The couple also has a 7-year-old son.

The crime took place in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday 22nd September 2019.
Details on the situation
The couple were fighting about a financial situation near a pond when they decided to throw their twins into the water and drown them.
The bodies were recovered from the pond and sent for a post mortem examination.
Waseem, the father, then woke up the next morning and filed a missing person report. He stated that his daughters were missing for quite some time. On further investigation, it was deducted that the parents, in fact, were the culprits to the crime.
Eventually, the parents admitted to the crime and have been booked for murder, providing false evidence, registering a false complaint, attempt to mask the evidence.
Many villagers living near the couple reported multiple fights between them since the twins were born. The father was reportedly unhappy about the birth of two daughters and they frequently argued over it.
