- President Ram Nath Kovind emphasized on how the union government was focusing on the overall development of the nation

Addressing the nation on occasion of Republic Day, President Ram Nath Kovind said that youth of the country should remember the doctrines of Mahatma Gandhi. He further stated that the Constitution of India has given rights as citizens of a free democratic nation, but has also placed the responsibility to adhere to central tenets of democracy-justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.
“Mahatma Gandhi’s principles remain prominent in the development of our nation. We all should try and adapt ourselves to the principles of Gandhiji. When fighting for a cause, not to forget the gift of Ahimsa gave to humanity. Gandhiji’s talisman for deciding whether an act is wrong also is applicable for the functioning of our democracy,” he said.
Besides telling the people of India to follow the doctrines of Gandhiji, he advised the government and opposition. He said the role of government and opposition party are very crucial for democracy. He said that for the welfare of the people and development of the nation, both the opposition and government should walk hand-in-hand.

The message of President came days before the Budget Session Parliament. This move was made by him as during the Budget Session in Parliament NDA would be cornered by the opposition over the massive upheaval that the announcement of the implementation of CAA has created.
In his speech, President quoted many stalwarts of our nation, one of them was B.R. Ambedkar. While quoting him he said,”If we wish to maintain democracy not merely in its form, but also in fact, what is to be done? The first and foremost thing is to hold on to constitutional methods of achieving our objectives.”
President Ram Nath Kovind Further added
In his speech, he also lauded the government schemes. He said,” The Government has kickstarted umpteen number of campaigns. Let us consider ‘Swachch Bharat Abhiyan and the astounding success it has achieved in a short span of time. The same spirit can see in other endeavours.” he said while addressing the nation.
He also laid emphasis on various measures that the central government took to ensure the overall development of the nation. Also, he expressed hope that the inception of the new decade will mark the rise of New India. President also praised the Armed forces. So, he said,” I have nothing but adulation and respect for our armed forces, paramilitary and security forces. Their sacrifices to preserve the unity and integrity of India is a mere representation of the saga of their valour and strength.
