Supreme Court issues notice to Lalu Prasad Yadav

CBI filed a plea challenging the bail granted to Lalu Prasad Yadav by the Jharkhand High Court in one of the fodder scam cases. However, the order was passed on 12th July 2019, has been challenged on the grounds that it had been passed ‘erroneously’.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant also sought a response from Yadav on the plea filed by CBI. However, Supreme Court issues notice to Lalu Prasad Yadav.

The high court granted bail  

The high court had granted Yadav bail in the case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 89.27 lakh from the Deoghar treasury on the grounds that he had already served half of his prison term of three and a half years.

According to the CBI, Yadav was the kingpin and the main conspirator in the scam. He allegedly misused the government’s money and abused his official position. Also, it has been alleged that he drew more money than allotted from the Deoghar treasury.
