A new death warrant has been issued for the Nirbhaya Case convicts. They are to be hanged on 3rd March 2020.
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana pronounced an order on a petition seeking a fresh date for the execution.
The case pertains to the gang rape and death of a 23-year-old woman in the national capital Delhi in December 2012.
The Delhi Court issued a new death warrant to execute the four convicts in the Nirbhya rape case. The four convicts – Vinay, Mukesh, Akshay and Pawan – will be hanged on 3rd March 2020. The convicts are to be executed at 6:00 A.M. in the Tihar Jail.
The court was hearing applications by the victim’s parents and the Delhi government, seeking fresh death warrants for the convicts after Supreme Court granted liberty to the authorities in approaching the trial court for the issuance of fresh date for the execution of the convicts. So, a new death warrant has been issued for the Nirbhaya Case convicts. They are to be hanged on 3rd March 2020.

Out of the four convicts, Pawan has not yet availed the remedy of either curative or mercy petition.
While speaking to the media, Asha Devi, the mother of the victim said,” I am not very happy as this is the third time that death warrant has been issued. We have struggled so much, so I am satisfied that the death warrant has been issued finally. I hope they (convicts) will be executed on 3rd March.”
Earlier on 5th February, the Delhi High Court granted a week’s time to the four convicts to avail all the legal remedies available. The Court also said that the convicts cannot be hanged separately as they were all convicted of the same crime.
The date of execution was first fixed as 22nd January 2020. It was postponed to 6 A.M. on 1st February 2020 after a court order on 17th January. On 31st January the court “till further orders” the execution of the four convicts in the case, who are lodged in Tihar Jail.
