West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Raj Bhawan and requested him to rethink on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and NRC(National Register of Citizens).

“I told him that we oppose CAA and NRC, as we don’t want anyone to leave the country. So please rethink on your decision before implementing CAA and NRC. We want both the acts to be withdrawn,” she said.

The brief meeting between the two leaders took place after Shri. Narendra Modi arrived amidst the protests on CAA and NRC. He after landing at Kolkata airport took an aerial route to Race course Ground.

He took part in event at newly renovated Currency Building, inaugurated a light and sound show at Millennium Park. After that he traveled to Belur the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission.

Smt. Mamta Banerjee told the PM told her talks regarding CAA could be conducted in Delhi. Describing the meet as courtesy call and constitutional obligation, she said that she raised the issue of the funds that the Center owed the state.

According to her, Center owed Bengal 28,000 crore for several schemes along with 7,000 crore due to loss of property in cyclone Bulbul.
