As the death toll and the total number of positive cases are on a rise, the Government of India is adopting various measures to put it under control.

Delhi Restaurants to close till 31st March

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that restaurants in Delhi would be shut down till 31st March. However, takeaway and delivery will still be available. On Thursday, he announced several steps to curb the coronavirus outbreak. He also requested the citizens not to panic. India also requested its fourth death in Punjab where the patient has been confirmed to have died of Covid-19.

The number of cases in India rose above 170 as India has nearly imposed a virtual lockdown situation. The country has also banned public gatherings, postponed the ICSE and CBSE class 10th and 12th examinations and pumped up vigilance at airports.

The coordinator of COVID-19 at the Ministry of External Affairs, Dammu Ravi, says that it is strengthening the COVID control room. He also said,” Right now 25-30 people are working in the control room. They work in shifts. We are getting about 400 emails and 1000 calls in a day.”

The ICSE Board today announced the postponement of Class 10 and 12 exams a day after the CBSE postponed their exams. Gerry Arathoon, the Chief Executive of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) said that the exams had been postponed. This declaration after him a day after he said that the examinations would be held as per schedule.

The global death toll due to the outbreak has risen to 8810 while over 2 lakh have been infected. Italy has reported nearly 500 deaths from the outbreak on Wednesday. This is the highest one day official toll in any nation.

As the number of infected cases rose above 2,00,000, governments announced new containment measures. The US Congress has approved a $100 billion emergency relief package.

However, markets took the beating and braced for grim weeks ahead.
