India recorded its first death due to Coronavirus with the death of a 76-year-old man in Karnataka. He had tested positive after his return from Saudi Arabia.

Coronavirus cases in India latest updates

Coronavirus took second life in India on Friday when a 69-year-old woman died who had tested positive for the virus. The health ministry and Delhi government officials said that she died in a Delhi hospital. The first death was also a senior citizen from Karnataka’s Kalburgi.

This development arose on a day when the affected cases rose to 81 from 74 in the country.

The first casualty in India was the man in Karnataka. Health officials in Karnataka were unsure of whether the death was due to Coronavirus but it was confirmed after results from Pune’s NIV lab.

The man was also suffering from pneumonia, hypertension and asthma. Several officials have communicated that the disease is more fatal among the elderly.

A news agency said that Telangana authorities had identified 34 people that had come in contact with the deceased. The authorities have placed them under home quarantine. All of them are said to be medical professionals. The deceased was also treated at the Hyderabad hospital before being shifted to Karnataka.

The Director of Public Health G. Srinivasa Rao was quoted saying who said all those quarantined were kept under strict isolation and were stable.

State officials are ascertaining if some more people had come in contact with the dead man.

The RML Hospital in Delhi reported the second case. The PTI said that it was caused to co-morbidity (diabetes and hypertension). The victim had also been tested positive for the virus.
