As the producer of the film called it ‘lifetime within a heartbeat’, there are several details about the film which makes the film one of the most special collaborations of Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar.
The ace filmmaker took to Twitter and wrote,” A love of lifetime within a heartbeat! A film very close to my heart completes 16 years!!”.
It was showered with several reactions showered by fans of the film who revisited the fondest memories of the film.
The female lead of the film also took to Twitter and posted a heartfelt note thanking the actors, producer and director of the film for making her part of the film that made her laugh and cry at the same time.

The first choice for the female lead of the film was not Preity Zinta
The film was first offered to Kareena Kapoor Khan but she had declined the offer. After that the film was offered to Preity Zinta. Preity in an interview said,” The film was very close to my heart as I lost my first love. I was in love with him, he was not. I felt strongly when the film was offered to me. Some of best things have happened to me during the film.”
Karan had to deal with personal tragedy
After the success of the film, Karan suffered a major setback as he lost his father, Yash Johar after couple of months. His closest friend and mentor Shah Rukh Khan also had to undergo a surgery during the shooting of the film. Karan’s father, veteran filmmaker was suffering from Cancer; died without witnessing his son’s superstardom.
Shah Rukh Khan wanted to walk out of the film
Just four days into the film Shah Rukh Khan fell ill and told his friend,” I think I won’t be able to do it.” However, the director of the film, Nikhil Advani requested Karan to wait for six months as he thought no actor would be able to do justice to the role of Aman.
The tune of Kal ho Na ho was composed at a bakery
The tune of the title track of the film was composed by Loy while sitting with Nikkhil at German Bakery in Pune. Nikkhil was humming the song ‘My heart will go on’ and expressed his desire to have a tune tune with similar impact.Then Loy composed the entire tune. Later the trio together came up with the entire song.
Karan regrets not directing the film
Karan Johar had confessed that he regrets not directing the film, which proved a dream debut for Nikkhil Advani. The latter told in an interview,” I don’t blame Karan for regretting not directing the film. He wrote the film from his heart.”
