Khiladi of Hindi film fraternity, superstar Akshay Kumar announced at an event that he has made a decision of giving up his Canadian Citizenship. He also confessed that he has applied for Indian passport several times.
Speaking at the event Akshay said,” I have applied for the passport several times. I am Indian and hurts me when I am asked to prove my nationality. My wife, my children are Indian. I pay my taxes here and my life is here.”
One of the cinema’s most bankable superstars, Akshay Kumar had applied for Canadian citizenship when he had 14 back-to-back flops in a row.
“I had a 14 flops in a row and I was wondering what to do. One of my closest pals who stays in Canada told me to come here and we will work together. I started the process as I thought that my career was over. But my 15th film worked and I decided to never look back”, he said.
The interesting part is superstar hasn’t had one flop film since 2016, and his last two ventures had crossed 200 crore mark at the box-office.
Netizens have had polarizing opinions of Kumar’s statements. There are people who are praising him for doing film like Kesari and say that the actor doesn’t need to prove his loyalty towards the nation. While some of the people have said nasty things about the actor. They have said that just because the fact that he Canadian citizenship is in front of the audience he is doing patriotic film to prove his nationality.
On the work front, his next venture is Good Newzz, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani in the leads. The film is set to hit the screens in 27th December, 2019.
