Coolie No.1 has suffered loses worth 20 million to 25 million after catching fire on the sets last week. However, the makers of the film have confirmed that there have been no casualties due to the accident and the film making is back on the roll.
The Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan starrer is the remake of the 1995 film of the same title which had Govinda and Karishma Kapoor on the lead. The loses, due to the fire has been patched-up by the insurance of Rs 1.25 billion which was covered before the start of the film making.
The fire broke out on the 11th of September in the Filmistan Studios which is located in Goregaon.
Coolie No.1 is a special film. Govinda-David Dhawan team was on the high during the ’90s and the pair went on to make some of the biggest hits of the time. In fact, the ‘No.1’ series, as one would call them was a successful franchise and most to all the films made under this title were huge commercial hits.
Coolie No.1 (1995)
Govinda and Karishma Kapoor pairing were also one of the most successful lead star cast of the ’90s and the on-screen couple have given many hits together. Their chemistry was unique. It was not your regular Bollywood ‘boy-meets-girl’ type romance. In fact, it had a kind of cute childishness about it that appealed to the audience of the time.
Govinda’s comic-timing is legendary and Karishma Kapoor was perfect in complimenting his acting skills with her own talent. Being one of the biggest known female stars of her time, Karishma managed to etch her name on the list of impactful performances in Bollywood during the ’90s and early 2000. Govinda-Karishma looks adorable, he with his ‘tapori’ dance moves and Karishma with her strange yet attractive energy to acting out a scene.

If the lead pair of the remake will be able to deliver the same kind of chemistry is yet to be seen. Varun Dhawan and Saraa Ali Khan have proved their acting-mantle in the past. While both are ‘star-kids’ however, they have managed to create the right amount of noises with their acting skills as well. Be it the Saraa Ali Khan debut ‘Kedarnath’ or Varun Dhawan’s ‘Student of the year’, these actors have connected with the youth of the nation and are much followed as well.
Dhawan Junior is a ‘power-packet’ and has given some applaudable performances previously. His intense role of a man seeking revenge in ‘Badlaapur’ was on-point and impactful. Khan, on the other hand, had a nice start with the Romantic film for a debut, where her ease with dialogue delivery and skill full art of ‘getting’ into her character was worth noticing.
Coolie No.1 will hit the theatres on May 1, 2020.
