Fashion Designer Wendell Rodricks dies:
Wendell Rodricks passed away at the age of 59 at his home in Colvale village. The time of the demise is nearly 5:45 p.m.
Rodricks won the Padma Shri and is known for blending modern aesthetics with Goan traditions. He was also an author, environmentalist and gay rights activist. Unfortunately, Award Winning Fashion Designer Wendell Rodricks dies at the age of 59.
Goan Health Minister Vishwajit Rane was among the firsts to tweet about Rodricks’ death.
He tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the sudden demise of my very good friend and designer, Wendell Rodricks. His excellency in his work and skills are irreplaceable and shall always be cherished. We will truly miss him. My heartfelt condolences to his family & dear ones.”
Bollywood celebrities’ mourn
His demise left members of the film fraternity in shock. Many Bollywood celebrities took to social media to mourn his demise.
Malaika Arora, who called herself ‘Rodricks’ muse’, shared an emotional post mourning him.
Actress Neha Dhupia tweeted, “So shocked to hear this? What? How?”
Singer Sona Mohapatra also took to Twitter and wrote,” NO. @Wendellrodricks. Trying to call you. Pick up.”
Actress Pooja Bedi shared a picture of her with Rodricks and wrote, “To my dearest @Wendellrodricks @jeromegoa. It’s way too soon to say goodbye…. cheers to an adorable, talented, positive& loving human being who truly lived life on his own terms!!! I will MISS U.”
Rodricks was also among the few Indians, who came out as gay as early as in 2000. He had strong views and never shun to speak about them, including rights for the LGBTQ community.
Filmmaker Onir who himself is a gay rights activist tweeted, “Absolutely shocked and heartbroken to hear about my friend @Wendellrodricks sudden demise. Sad that this happens when he was about to open his dream project …. the museum of costumes in Goa. Loving and warm .. will always cherish the week I spend with him this nov in Goa.”
